Who We Are

Who We Are:

The Filipino-American Association (FAA) was founded in 1989 by a small group of visionaries.  It is a civic, charitable, non-profit, and non-sectarian organization, which is designed to help promote positive relationships among Filipinos and Filipino-Americans residing in the Columbus-Fort Benning-Atlanta-Phenix City (AL) and neighboring areas.  The association is committed to foster Philippine values, customs and traditions.

FAA offers its members congenial friendship; participation in association events; social, civic and cultural awareness; and a support system which may include appropriate assistance on occasions of hospitalization and bereavement.  Additional commitments are support for specific needs both in the community and in the Philippines on events of natural disaster, as well as incentive awards to FAA high school graduates.  In response to the massive typhoon “Yolanda” in 2013, FAA organized fund-raising, solicited business and  individual donations and sent a generous sum to ABS/CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc.  (“family rescue”).  Since 1998 FAA has been an active supporter of the Federation of Philippine American Organizations in Georgia and the Philippine American Center in Georgia. Since 2008 the FAA Financial Incentive Program has awarded eight recipients who competed and qualified for financial assistance as students in an academic or technical program.  In 2011 FAA was honored as a donor at the National Infantry Museum, Fort Moore (Benning), Georgia.  The association also participated in the 2013 NaFFAA-sponsored “Discovering the Filipino-American Experience” Symposium and Gala in Atlanta.

Board meetings are held regularly and special meetings are called as necessary.  Membership meetings are held quarterly in January, April, July and October. Officers serve two-year terms.  Copy of ratified by-laws and roster are available upon request.  We invite you to be a part of FAA, and together let us continue to celebrate our unique contributions to the community!
